Every academic session at the Eastern Mediterranean University, Palestinian Society's Night is always an anticipated event. On a different mood, and for the first time, this year's Palestinians celebration was a week-long event.
The week-long event started with a campus Marathon which featured 150 participants on Tuesday 24th April 2018. Also, in a loving fashion and in what was tagged "Palestine on a plate", students and staff were invited to dine with the Palestinian friend on Wednesday 25th April 2018. Different varieties of traditional delicacies were prepared by the Palestinian society and served to about 100 guests present at the CL square of the university. And, before the grand finale of the week-long event, leaflets containing vital information regarding Palestine and the peoples' struggle were handout to student and members of staff on and within the campus.
On Saturday 28 April 2018, Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Center hosted a grand finale and the glamorous 2018 edition of the Palestinian Night. Before the start of the stage activities at 20:00, the guests, host students and friends of The Palestinian People were thrilled to a photo gallery show at the premises of the Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Center. The Vice Rector of International Affairs and Promotion, Professor Dr Cem Tanova led the league of the university representatives to the event. Other dignitaries present were Associate Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salamah of EMU Computer Engineering, Mr Ahmed Kasim of EMU International Affairs, The Counsellor of Turkish Embassy in Lefkosa-Yasin Temizkan, and the Northern Cyprus Economic Department Affairs-Hasibe Asicioglu.
Just immediately after the Palestinian and Turkish national anthems were rendered, the audience had a good feeling and relished with short documentary depicting the struggle of The Palestinian people in addition to the presentation of the previous Palestinian Night. Before the guest musical group- Dalal Abu Amneh will begin to add cultural glitz to the already fun-filled atmosphere, the President of the Palestinian Union-AHMED TOMA had addressed the audience in a very charismatic manner. Also, immediately in his own speech, Professor Dr Cem Tanova drew the attention of the audience to the core similarity shared by the Turkish Cypriot and the Palestinians. Immediately after his inspiring and educative message, the Vice Rector Prof. Dr Cem Tanova was presented an award by the Palestinian Society President AHMED TOMA. The society also presented other dignitaries with awards as the event drew to a close.
At the performance of the Dalal Abu Amneh group, the atmosphere of the entire hall became electrified as the singer and her group sang to the admiration of the audience. And so, ending the Palestinian Night 2018 with such a high note and glitz is an indication that the next academic session event is sure to be explosive.
As guests walk out of the hall at the close of the event, the mind of many would simply whisper 'oh Palestinian Night 2019 come quick'.
