EMU’s Culture, Sport and Arts Days Hosted Colourful Scenes

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) tries to heal the wounds of deep sorrow caused by the earthquake disaster that affected many provinces in the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) through cultural, sports, and art activities. In this context, EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate and EMU Sports Affairs Directorate organized the EMU Culture, Sports, and Art Days from 17 to 20 May, 2023, which has been completed with colourful events.

Aiming to reach a stronger future all together with culture, sports, and art, the first event titled “Integrated Life of Disabled Individuals with Society: Art and Sports” took place at 11:00 at EMU Activity Center, organized by the Atatürk Ideology Club and the Special Education Club, featuring Ahmet Akdeniz, the President of the TRNC Presidential Office, Disabled Persons Committee.

At 16:00, Grass Volleyball, Grass Tennis, Five-a-Side Tournaments were held at EMU Yasin Düşüner Stadium. At the same time, “Extreme Parkour Games 2023” was held by the EMU Search and Rescue Club and Mountaineering and Nature Sports Club at 16:00 at EMU Yasin Düşüner Stadium. The events continue with EMU Culture, Sports and Art Days Opening Match at 17:00.

“Entrepreneurship Summit” was held

On Thursday, 18 May 2023, at 10:00, the Entrepreneurship Club organized the “Entrepreneurship Summit” at the Activity Center, where the challenging journey of entrepreneurship were discussed and esteemed entrepreneurs participated. At 14:30, the Photography Club held a Creative Portrait Art Exhibition titled “Unique Irregularities” at the Central Classroom Halls Building.

International Night by the International Student Societies

The events, which aim to reach stronger tomorrows through culture, sports, and art, continued with the International Night organized by the International Student Activities and Student Societies operating under the EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate. The International Night took place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 17:00. Various vibrant and joyful performances introducing different cultures were staged by student societies and international students during the night. Students also showcased their cultures by presenting cultural meals and local products.

At 18:00, EMU Beşiktaş Fan Club (EMUBJK) held a talk with Alen Markaryan, the legendary cheerleader of Beşiktaş, at the EMU Activity Center.

19 May Walk Organized

On Friday, 19 May, 2023, the events continued with a Streetball Tournament held at 10:00 am at the EMU Open Basketball Courts. At 4:00 pm, the final matches of Grass Volleyball, Grass Tennis, and Five-A-Side Tournaments took place at the Yasin Düşüner Stadium. At the same time, at 4:00 pm, a workshop titled "Create and Play Your Instrument with Zehra Onbaşı Yılmaz" was conducted at the EMU Activity Center. From 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm, a Mural Art Workshop was held at the Exterior Walls of the Central Lecture Halls Building of EMU. At 5:00 pm, colorful activities were organized by student clubs at the festival area. At 7:19 pm, the traditional 19 May Youth Walk was organized. The walk, organized in collaboration with the Atatürk Research and Application Center of EMU (EMU-ATAUM) and EMU Atatürk Ideology Club, started from the EMU Atatürk Square and ended at the Salamis Road roundabout with a high level of participation.

"No to Money" Theater Performance Staged

On Saturday, 20 May, 2023, at 11:00 am, a Talent Show took place at the Yasin Düşüner Stadium of EMU, followed by the Lady Crows - NEU Angels Flag Football match at 1:00 pm and the EMU Crows - NEU Brothers American Football match at 3:15 pm. After the matches, various games were played with the audience at 6:00 pm. At 2:00 pm, a talk with Cem Gölbaşı, the Leader of Young Fenerbahçe Fans, was held by EMU Fenerbahçe Fans Club (EMUFEB) at the Activity Hall of EMU. At 4:30 pm, a workshop titled "Performative Multimedia Workshop" by Sıla Tüfekçioğlu (Hayal Gezer) took place at the Activity Center, followed by a workshop titled "Drama and Movement with Oya Akın" at 5:00 pm at the Golf Course. The EMU Culture, Sports, and Art Days events came to an end at 8:00 pm with the play "No to Money" staged by the Nicosia Municipal Theater at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. The play, written by Flavia Coste, translated by Can Kapyalı, and directed by Osman Ateş, featured Kurtuluş Altaylı, Aysel Açelya Bükülmez, Özgür Oktay, and Fuat Zorali.
