17th International Night Held at EMU

EMU International Night is one of the University's largest and most exciting cultural festival!

It brings together people from around the world to celebrate their unique and beautiful cultures through dance, song, and cuisine.

Organized on a yearly basis by Eastern Mediterranean University International Office, the 17th International Night was a night rich in cultural display. The event took place on the 11th of May 2018, at EMU CL Square, and recorded an impressive presence of thousands of students from various nationalities represented at EMU.

The stands opened at 6pm students and visitors were privileged to taste traditional coffee from Jordanian and Moroccan societies. The Chadian and Zimbabwean society showcased their music and dance, as well as the Chadian impressive attire called Boubou.

Just as its name portray, the various countries present at Eastern Mediterranean showcased their beautiful cultural diversity at their stands. On display was the beautiful cultural dresses (Kaba) from Cameroon, the Zimbabwean animal print attire (dehwe), made from real leopard skin, the zbon attire from Libya, the kurk attire from Azerbaijan, and many other attire from other countries. 

The night commenced with a flag show by international office assistants, followed with a speech from the Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, who gave a cheering opening speech and awarded all sponsors of the event. Hosting the event were Ms. Esra from Somalia, and Mrs. Hanife from North Cyprus. Assistants from the international office helped in making the event successful through their participation, and strong involvement in the organization, as well as International Office staff Mr. Ahmed Kasim who contributed to the success of the event.


The event was honored by the Cypriot (KKTC) Folk dancers, the Latin Dancers and Kangoo Jump group, along with performances by EMU students from Azerbaijan, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Palestine, Sudan, Chad, Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Tajikistan, Congo, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, India, and Bangladesh.

It was obvious that the students were excited as they danced to various traditional and circular musicals. The event ended by appreciation from the M.C.'s and International Office assistants and staff who came on stage and danced along to mark the end of the 17th International Night.  The students appreciated the international office and the Eastern Mediterranean University for making the day a memorable one.
