EMU International Office Organizes Transition Dinner

Democracy showcased at the Eastern Mediterranean University once again as the International Office of the university conducted a smooth, peaceful and exciting handover ceremony among international societies in the University. The event held on Friday Night 11th November 2016 at the EMU Beach Club and was filled with excitement and celebration.

In his address the Vice Rector, International Relations and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova said peace can only come through understanding, stating that the differences we have as human beings makes us rich. He charged the student leaders of the various international societies to work together and organise joint activities that will further promote unity, love and peace. He encouraged them to live together as a family by carrying out joint projects that would help everyone appreciate and learn from one another. "Elections are just one part of democracy as it is important to keep in mind that there is need for you as leaders to represent all the students under your societies in their various societies and serve them diligently" Prof. Tanova Said.

The Vice Rector said EMU is proud to host so many different nationalities on its campus. He said EMU believes that the diversity of its internationalization is one of the features that makes the university unique and sets it apart from other universities. He said the university offers its students the opportunity to meet, interact and make friends with different people from different parts of the world. Prof. Dr. Tanova said the peaceful environment where people from diverse nationalities, cultures and races live together as a family is a natural phenomenon at EMU but not likely to be the same in other campuses across the globe. He congratulated all the students who have contributed to the environment of internationalisation on the EMU campus for the last year while welcoming the newly elected presidents of the societies.

In her welcoming speech, the International Office Coordinator, Mrs. Özgür T. Güler, appreciated all those who participated and contributed to the success of the international societies' elections. She gave special appreciation to the Nigerian and Libyan societies for competing in a gentle and mature way while urging the new executives to continue to contribute their quota to the development of their societies and EMU in general.

The night was full of colours as guests at the event dressed in beautiful and attractive dresses. Many of the students who attended the event commended the University management for organising such an event describing it as a great deal in uniting the various societies. The outgoing presidents were latter presented an award plague each in commemoration of their selfless service, while the incoming presidents were given a congratulatory letter each.
