EMU Host International Journalists

Over the past three years, the Eastern Mediterranean University EMU has signed more than 24 international agreements with international Universities across the globe. This was stated by the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam while playing host to international journalists in a press briefing held on Wednesday 16th November 2016 in his office.

Prof. Dr. Osam welcomed the journalists to EMU stating that within the last year they met and now, a lot of developmental milestones have been recorded by the University. The rector stated that EMU is the only University in Northern Cyprus that is listed in the Times Higher Education world ranking. He said the University has come over the difficulties of signing agreements with international Universities and is not going back on its drive. He said EMU provides highly quality and standard education which is one of the reasons for being in the world rankings of the Times Higher Education.

He said every year the University hosts international journalists to brief them on the events and happenings in Cyprus and as well re introduce the University to them so as to get information on the developments and mile stones. Prof. Dr. Osam said Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is usually under attack by its political opponents stating that politics and education are not two concepts that go hand in hand. He said EMU is trying to create a better world through education.

The Rector said "What I will like to tell you is this,  although the international world does not recognize us, we are present in in the heart of the Mediterranean, that is something valuable, that is something related to humanitarian understanding. What we are asking for is respect from others, we have the right to breathing the same air everyone is breathing"

"The foundation of the University is older than the foundation of the TRNC republic, therefore this University has given a lot of energy to the establishment of the TRNC. The University has played an important role in the history of Cyprus. " Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated.

While giving a brief of the achievements of the University over the past years the Vice Rector, International Relations and Promotion Activities Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova stated that EMU has a larger number of international students to the indigenes stating that the university has continued to ensure its internationalisation drive.

He explained that the university has continued to grow from strength to strength stating that the facilities available on the campus are of world class standard. Prof. Dr. Tanova said EMU realizes the need to look for other alternatives of funding as it would not rest on its oars.

The journalists were latter taken on a facility tour around the campus so as to see for themselves the developments that are continuously taking place.
