IAPSS Winter School Programme Ends With Success

Authorities of the Eastern Mediterranean University have been commended for creating an environment full of opportunities, talents and potentials. This was stated by participants at the just concluded International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) Winter School held at the Eastern Mediterranean University.

The programme which featured participants from across the world lasted for a week with a series of activities. While hosting the participants during the farewell dinner the International Office Coordinator Mrs. Özgür Taşcıoğlu Güler appreciated the students for their comportments throughout the course of the programme. She encouraged the participants to continue to project the image of the students as they have become EMU ambassadors in their respective countries. Ms.Güler also emphasized the need for unity and healthy relationships globally and stated that this can only be achieved through the promotion of international education and inter cultural communication. She later presented certificates to the group leader Xavier Carrera and coordinators of the program Serap Aydemir and Kateryna Dyskhantyuk.

In their various remarks, the participants of 2017 Winter School program emphasized that they felt at home and comfortable with the hospitality, comfort and friendship they received from the members of the EMU community. The Winter School program had earlier started on Saturday February 2017 with lecture, group meetings and a social welcoming dinner. The program featured documentary screenings, lectures, interactive sessions, discussions, talk on peace journalism at the Cyprus community media center, panel with women activists, guided walk through the buffer zone and a host of others.

Throughout the program international academicians Pawell Pustelnik, Elissa Helms and Güler Alkan had enlightening sessions and workshops. Cypriot academicians like Maria Hadjipavlou, Olga Demetreiu and Magda Zenon also had sessions. Among EMU academic staff, Assist. Prof. Umut Bozkurt added to the program with a session and workshop on conflict. Assoc. Prof. Fatma Güven Lisaniler also took part with a presentation on 'Gender in Conflict Resolution'.
