Nigerian students in Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) celebrated the 57th Independence of the Republic of Nigeria on the evening of 28th October 2017. The event, tagged "2017 Nigerian Night" which started after 20:00 (EET) was held at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Cultural Centre with good number of Nigerian students and especially from other universities in attendance.
The event began with the country's national anthem as the attendees stood and sang in admiration and respect of the country's constitution. In attendance was the Vice-Rector of International Affairs and Promotion of EMU, Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Rector and the university. In his speech, the Vice Rector charismatically appreciate the contribution of Nigerian students to the growth of the university and the host community as well encouraged the students to make themselves available for the needful transformation drive of Nigeria and the entire continent of Africa.
It was a delightful night, with varieties of Nigeria's rich cultures, traditions and values on display through drama, songs and musical displays. The special guest, a popular Nollywood actress from Nigeria-Rahama Sadau was recognized and presented an Award of recognition. Awards for distinguished students from all EMU faculties and other categories of award for recognitions were handed out to people. Marking the end of the one-year term of the society's president-Mr. Jerry Sambe, the society through its president appreciates the support of the university and the Nigerian students in Eastern Mediterranean University. Nigeria Students Society and other societies will be having new executives for another one-year term after the EMU International Office-organized societies elections slated for Friday 3rd November 2017.
